At Volvo we are immensely proud of having been partner to cities and operators in creating the very concept of BRT systems. Now, we are redefining public transport again, by introducing our first all-electric BRT bus. Combining Volvo’s renowned reliability with a cradle-to-grave sustainability perspective, make us ready to take on tomorrow’s public transport challenges.
Soon Volvo celebrates one hundred years as a leading maker of commercial vehicles. Ever since our first bus in 1928, reliability has been at the core, together with safety. The Volvo BZRT is no exception. Built ot the highest quality standards with weight-saving high-tensile steel, it is designed for maximum capacity in the most demanding applications.
Volvo takes pride in responsible use all kinds of natural resources. We have a thorough supplier code of conduct, and we continuously work with our manufacturing processes, in order to reduce the environmental impact of our operation.
The Volvo BZRT Electric chassis is built on decades of experience from the toughest routes all over the world. For you, the benefits are not only durability and quality but also superior handling properties and an excellent driving experience.
Volvo BZRT Electric comes with several features that boost comfort and safety behind the steering wheel, which has buttons for various media. A dynamic instrument cluster provides a superior overview of important driver information, enhancing driver focus and control.
The digital instrument cluster shows what the driver need to know. No less – no more. There is no need to distract the driver with redundant information. Instead the driver can focus on the road ahead and drive more safely. The differend display views give possibilities to adapt to the requirements of the actual route.
A robust powertrain with a proven layout concept. The mid-mounted motor ensures less exposure to vibrations, heat produced by the brake and impacts from potholes on the road. Compared to wheel hub motors this concept gives longer motor and transmission lifetime as well as improved reliability and uptime.
The Volvo BZRT Electric model has dual motors to ensure outstanding uphill capability, due to the 400kW output, coresponding to 540 hp.

Gear changing is automatic and software-controlled. During gear shifting, the transmission program uses the electric motor to synchronize input and output shafts to speed up and optimize the comfort of the gear shift.
The Volvo BZRT Electric is equipped with a Hill Start function, preventing the bus from rolling backwards when starting on hills.
With a maximum of 720 kWh installed nominal capacity, the Volvo BZRT Electric can take on any route. For shorter and less demanding routes, the onboard energy storage can be optimized in size, which saves weight, hence allowing for extra passengers.

The electrical safety architecture starts with protective functionality at cell level and continues all the way out to mechanical protection and the chassis overall design. Continuous monitoring on cell, module and package level ensures immediate power cut-off in case of, for instance, a collision threatening to damage the battery.
A bus battery’s lifetime will increase if it is managed correctly, both in operation and in charging and maintenance. All Volvo electric buses feature a smart BMS which controls all charging and discharging processes, and which also monitors battery health and performance.
Every bus generate a continuous stream of vehicle data. With Volvo Connect this data is transformed to reports and information which can help you to optimise the performance of each vehicle, as wellas your entire Volvo fleet.
