The two 12.6 metre coaches, which are the first brand new full size coaches purchased by the Inverness based company, each feature Jonckheere bodywork and 53 seats. They are to be used for a variety of private hire work, including cruise ship collection and delivery and twice daily summer return services to the John O’Groats ferry.
Donald Mathieson, Managing Director for D&E Coaches, said: “We have an existing fleet of 50 plus vehicles, including a large proportion of Volvo, and wanted to improve and upgrade some of them. In the past we’ve tended to go for quality, pre-owned coaches, but with the high expectations of today’s seasoned coach traveller, we thought we’d go for new this time
“We’ve heard some very good things about the B11R chassis which certainly influenced our purchasing decision. In addition, we have Volvo Truck & Bus Centre Inverness, with whom we have a very good working relationship, a few hundred metres away from our depot, and this was another key reason for us choosing Volvo.
“This year, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and it is good to be marking this by adding our two new coaches to the fleet. Our Volvo Retail Coach & Bus Sales Manager, Jim Newman, worked really hard for us and has been excellent throughout the whole purchasing process from specification through to final delivery.”
Jim Newman added: “We’re pleased to be supplying D&E Coaches with their first new full size coaches. They’ve enjoyed success with their pre-owned Volvo coaches, but we’re confident their passengers and drivers alike will appreciate the many benefits of the B11R.”
Family owned and run D&E Coaches was established in 1996 and has grown from a small mini coach business into one of the most successful operators in Scotland. Today the company has a staff of more than 70 people.
