Volvo Buses receives major order for 106 electric buses from Svealandstrafiken

Volvo Buses has received an order from Svealandstrafiken for a total of 106 electric buses to operate in the counties of Västmanland and Örebro in Sweden. The initial order included 60 Volvo 8900 Electric – the first orders since the model was launched – and 13 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated. Svealandstrafiken has now placed a call-off for a further 33 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated. 

The Volvo 8900 Electric will operate in regional traffic in the counties of Västmanland and Örebro, with the buses expected to begin service in early 2027. The Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated city buses, due for delivery in 2026, will serve city traffic routes in Örebro.

The latest order is not the first time the two partners have worked together – Svealandstrafiken already has 17 Volvo electric buses in operation on urban traffic routes in Västerås.

Demand for electric buses for intercity and regional services is increasing across Europe, and the Volvo 8900 Electric is well-suited for this type of traffic. The bus is built on Volvo’s BZR electromobility platform, a flexible platform that allows customers to optimize the number of batteries and charging necessary for all kinds of traffic. Along with the Volvo 7900 Electric city bus, Volvo Buses now provides a complete range of sustainable public transport solutions for city, intercity and commuter traffic to customers throughout Europe.

Inside the bus itself, the redesigned driver’s environment was a key factor in Svealandstrafiken’s choice of supplier. With a dynamic instrument cluster that includes easy-to-read and logically placed instruments and controls, the new setup is designed to help drivers maintain their focus on both traffic and passengers.

Partnerships important

The chassis for the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated and Volvo 8900 Electric will be manufactured at Volvo Buses’ facilities in Borås and Uddevalla in Sweden, while the bodies will be made at MCV, Volvo Buses’ partner in Egypt. A brand-new production facility is being built there, specially for the manufacture of complete electric buses from Volvo Buses.
