Volvo Buses continues to contribute to the modernization of the urban transportation system in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. The city of Monterrey has placed an order for 200 Volvo B8RLE chassis, meeting the state’s growing demand of sustainable people transportation.

Volvo Buses, supporting the objective to promote sustainable development of Mexican cities, has worked with the authorities of the State of Nuevo León to meet the growing demand for urban transportation. Together, they offer solutions to improve the quality of service, increase the size of fleets and promote the use of buses to reduce emissions.

As a result of this collaboration, Volvo Buses has now been awarded an order of 200 Volvo B8RLE chassis. They will be delivered in the second half of 2025 and will provide service in Monterrey as part of the “Mobility Restructuring and Modernization Plan”.

The Volvo B8RLE Euro 6 chassis guarantee significant fuel savings and greater efficiency in operation, generating positive impacts on society, reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring easy access for passengers.

“Volvo Buses stands out in the Mexican market, since we offer added value through comprehensive solutions. The order includes a maintenance contract at the Volvo Service Point located in Monterrey. It also entails Volvo Connect services; all this to optimize the management of the fleet and to ensure uptime,” says Rafael Kisel, Senior Vice President, Volvo Buses Mexico.

The 200 chassis will be manufactured at the Volvo plant in Tultitlán in Mexico. Out of these, 136 will become complete buses at the Volvo Buses plant, and the remaining 64 chassis will be bodied by Marcopolo, one of the leading global bus bodybuilders.

Additionally, as part of the comprehensive solution, Volvo Financial Services played a very important role throughout the entire process, understanding the specific needs of the project and providing the best financing solution.

Monterrey, located in the northeastern region of Mexico, is the capital and most populated city of the state of Nuevo León. It is also the second largest city in the country, with the modernization of the public transportation system being one of the current government’s many priorities to guarantee sustainable mobility for the people.
