The new single-deck buses represent the first Volvos to join the growing Gatwick Hoppa fleet, helping to meet increased demand for hotel transfers and a continued uplift in airport passenger numbers.
Kiran Suresh, Managing Director of Gatwick Hoppa, says: “We were looking to grow the fleet, and there was a firm preference from management for the Volvo brand. The eVoRa is a proven product for airport operations, and in the specification we’ve selected, we’re confident this is the best vehicle for our customers. They also look superb, and early feedback from passengers and drivers alike has been entirely positive.
Commenting on the aftersales support from Volvo Buses, he adds: “The support that Volvo offers really sets the brand apart. Being located close to the London South dealerpoint in Croydon means we can have direct access to Volvo’s Bus Field Service team, which supports bus operators across London and the South East. It was one of the reasons we took a three-year service and maintenance agreement as this will really make our lives easier.”
Each new vehicle features double doors for easy boarding, wheelchair access, spacious luggage racks and seating for up to 29 passengers – with additional standing room available for up to 47, giving a total capacity of 77, including one wheelchair space. Easily identified, all three sport a bright blue livery applied by the team at EuroTint Customs.
The new buses are powered by Volvo’s proven 8-litre D8K engine, which is one of the cleanest and most efficient Euro-6 diesel bus engines on the market.
Gatwick Hoppa, an official partner of Gatwick Airport, runs every 15 minutes during peak hours with a reduced service every 20-minutes during the earliest hours of the morning.
This includes stops at Airport Inn Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn Gatwick, Travelodge, and Premier Inn Gatwick A23, before arriving at Gatwick’s North and South terminals. It operates as a cashless service, with tickets available to buy online or directly from the driver via contactless payment.
