New eVoRa joins remote Scottish island’s 100% Volvo bus and coach fleet

Yet another reliable Volvo bus has joined Lochs Motor Transport’s 25-strong fleet on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. It’s the operator’s second Volvo B8RLE MCV eVoRa – in the longer 12.1 metre variant – purchased after experiencing excellent performance from the incumbent vehicle.

The new eVoRa is the company’s only service bus, with a variety of Volvo coach models making up the rest of the fleet. Clocking up more than 1,300 km per week, the Volvo B8RLE MCV eVoRa is operating Lochs Motor Transport’s popular W8 service between Ranish and Stornoway, six days a week.

Roddy MacDonald, Managing Director at Lochs Motor Transport says: “Every year we replace some of our older vehicles with new Volvos; they really are brilliant assets and the customer service we enjoy, from the dealer technicians to the sales managers, is second to none.

“Our remote location means we’re only reachable by ferry and there are only a handful of crossings per day. We know we have the support of local dealer Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, and the bodybuilder, MCV. With their aftersales support, we can pretty much get anything we need delivered to our yard the next morning, on the first ferry.”

The picturesque Isle of Lewis is the largest and most populated island in the Outer Hebrides, a chain of islands off the west coast of mainland Scotland. It’s also home to Stornoway, the largest town within the isles and a popular holiday destination — making Lochs Motor Transport’s W8 route one of the most travelled on the island.

MacDonald continues: “Running 18 different routes, the most important aspects when considering a new purchase for me is that the vehicle is capable of the job, of navigating the unique terrain and meeting the expectations of our motto, ‘safety first.’

“We have a long reputation in the area for maintaining 100 per cent customer satisfaction, and that’s down to our service which relies on having robust and comfortable vehicles that deliver great uptime for our passengers and drivers.”

The new Volvo B8RLE MCV eVoRa seats up to 46 passengers, includes USB ports and three-point seatbelts, as well as being instantly recognisable with Lochs Motor Transport’s signature blue and white livery.  The vehicle is powered by Volvo’s proven D8K Euro VI diesel engine, driven through a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox, delivering great fuel efficiency, low emissions, and a comfortable ride.

Established in 1947, Lochs Motor Transport is a family-run business with 50 years’ experience of operating across the North of Scotland. The fleet is now run from the Isle of Lewis by Roddy Macdonald and his sister.
