East Yorkshire Motor Services doubles multi-million pound investment with Volvo

Hull based East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) has taken delivery of 12 new Volvo B5TL double deck buses to complement its order of six of the same specification buses earlier this year.

The new vehicles are part of an upgrade programme bringing the company’s fleet of 300 plus, predominantly Volvo buses, in line with the current emission standards that the Euro 6 engine facilitates.

EYMS were the first customer in the UK to order a Volvo B5TL with MCV EvoSeti bodywork after purchasing the EvoSeti demonstrator low bridge bus in May 2015. This was followed by a first batch order of six B5TL MCV buses delivered in late December 2016 in preparation for January 2017 operation, representing an investment of more than £1 million. This latest purchase of 12 buses represents an additional outlay of £2.5 million, taking EYMS’ total investment to £3.5 million.

Peter Shipp, Owner of EYMS, said: “Consistent quality and excellent product support are what makes us return to Volvo time and time again. Since taking delivery of the vehicles with their efficient Euro 6 engines and using them on our longest inter-urban routes, we have noticed a significant improvement in fuel consumption, and look forward to continued savings moving forward.

“Keeping our fuel costs down is a really important goal for us, as the routes these buses will be used on cover thousands of miles each year. We are extremely happy with the consistent quality and excellent value, we receive from these vehicles and will no doubt return to Volvo again the next time we are looking to upgrade our fleet.”

Fleet Sales Manager for Volvo Bus, Dan Barwick, said: “We are delighted that EYMS has chosen to return to Volvo Bus for the second time this year. They have made a significant investment with us, but they are already seeing the positive changes these vehicles are having on their fuel consumption and overall operating costs, making the substantial outlay worthwhile in the long run.
