Volvo was founded in Sweden in 1927, and a year later our first bus rolled out on the streets. The company started with a vision of safe and efficient transportation for everyone. Ever since, Volvo has been at the technological forefront, and for decades we have maintained a solid position as the world leader in commercial transportation technology.

The first bus is built on a truck chassis.

1934
Volvo introduced a brand new bus chassis – B1.

1945
Volvo Diesel Engine was introduced.

1951
The first mid-engined chassis was introduced.

1957
Start of VISTA. The world’s largest competition for service market personnel.

1968
Volvo Bus Division was established as a company in its own right.

1975
Invention of BRT system and the first delivery to Curitiba, Brazil.

The 90s
This decade was characterised by global expansion.

2003
The I-Shift gearbox was introduced.

2004
Acquisition of Prevost Car Inc. (Nova Bus and Prevost) complete.

2008
Buses with hybrid technology were launched.

2013
Introduction of Euro 6 engine range.

2014

The UD brand was introduced in India.
Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid was launched.

2015
Launch of Volvo Dynamic Steering.

2016
Introduction of hybrids in India.

2017
First Volvo 7900 Electric in traffic.

2018

Volvo demonstrated an autonomous electric bus.
New coach range, Volvo 9700 and Volvo 9900, launched in Europe.
 

2019
Launch of Volvo Electric Articulated.

2020
Extended electric capabilities for Volvo's full-hybrid, Volvo 7900 S-Charge.

2021
Launch of Volvo BZL electric chassis.

2022
Launch of Volvo B13R premium coach chassis.
Launch of Volvo Connect fleet management system and online services portal.
